EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION & REHABILITATION
What is Exercise Rehabilitation?
Physiotherapy and Sports Therapy Treatment involves a lot of Exercise Rehabilitation. It is an aspect of the treatment designed to facilitate the process of recovery from injury, illness, or disease to as normal a condition as possible. This can include a combination of any of the treatment modalities described on this page and is commonly required post injury or surgery, especially where lengthy recovery times may be involved.
Exercise is also a big part of our ethos when it comes to ‘Prehabilitation’ or the prevention of injury. Not only do we aim to get you back to full fitness, but we always look to prevent your injury coming back.
We also offer screening appointments for those looking to prevent any injury that they may be predisposed to, whether this be through the sport they do, previous histroy of injury or postural issues.
Gym Based Rehabilitation
Farr Physiotherapy’s Rehabilitation Gym is where a large part of our patient’s rehabilitation process takes place. A place where our patients will feel safe and at ease as they begin to re-strengthen post injury.
Safer Gym Environment
We feel that our gym is a far safer environment for our patients to use for their rehabilitation than in a commercial gym as we can monitor your rehabilitation as you complete it, we can teach you correct technique and talk you through what you should expect to feel during each exercise. We can also teach you ways to avoid aggravating vulnerable joints whilst supporting you in every phase of exercise.
Therapeutic Exercises
Our physio team will generally give each patient some exercises to complete between appointments to help our treatments and aid our efforts in relieving pain. These exercises are individual to each patient and can vary depending on patient needs, the mostly consist of:
- strength exercises
- flexibility exercises
- manual therapy or self treatment
- cardiovascular exercises
Personal Training
We work closely with Ed Bogue Personal Training who offers our patients online personal coaching.
Ed understands that a lot of physio rehabilitation is about building up core and muscle strength which helps with posture, balance and protecting the back and vulnerable joints like the knee or ankle. This is where Ed can help too, in developing an exercise programme to work specifically on the right muscles.
Gym Availability
The gym is available to our existing and new physiotherapy patients as part of their rehabilitation programme, we do not charge extra for the provision of exercises alongside your treatment. If you wish to complete your rehabilitation in our gym space, please talk to us at your appointment.
