YOUR FIRST PHYSIOTHERAPY VISIT

What you can Expect on your first Physiotherapy visit?

Your first appointment will normally be a 30 – 45 minute assessment which may also include treatment if time allows.
60 minute appointments are available on request.

– To maximise the time spent on your assessment and any included treatment, please complete the registration form sent via email before  your first appointment. Here, we will ask you to read the ‘New Patient Information’ document and agree to it.

– During your assessment, we will thoroughly discuss your injury/symptoms, and a practical examination of the affected body part(s) will be carried out.

– Please bear in mind the affected body part(s) and probably the surrounding area will likely need to be exposed to enable an accurate and complete examination, so please wear appropriate clothing to your appointment.

– You are welcome to be accompanied by a family member or friend. Children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

– Following the examination, a diagnosis will be provided and a plan of action will be discussed detailing the recommended course of action for dealing with your injury or problem.

– Each follow-up session will normally last 30 minutes unless alternative plans are specifically discussed.

Do I Have To Be Referred By A Doctor?

No, you may consult a Chartered Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist without a doctor’s referral.

Can I Use My Private Medical Insurance?

Farr Physiotherapy is a recognised healthcare provider for AXA, WPA, Cigna, Vitality and Simply Health.

If you wish to use your private health insurance please speak with your insurer before your appointment. They’ll supply you with an authorisation code or case number which you should bring to your initial appointment together with your policy and/or membership number. If you don’t have these details on the day, you’ll be asked to settle the account and submit the receipt to the insurer yourself.

New Patient Information

Cancellation Policy-  We enforce a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you cannot attend an appointment with us, we require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. Less than 24 hours’ notice makes it very unlikely that we can offer your appointment slot to an alternative patient. Any cancellations or appointments not attended without suitable notice will result in a charge of 100% of your missed appointment cost. This will be payable prior to any further bookings being made for you. This policy is designed to protect our staff against loss of earnings and to dissuade people from not attending their sessions.

First Appointment-   On your first visit there is a small amount of paperwork to be completed. This is important to enable us to process your data safely and currently, and to ensure that your time with Farr Physiotherapy is as productive and beneficial to yourself as possible.

Depending on the treatment you are receiving, you will likely be asked to disrobe sufficiently to expose the affected areas/body part. Please be aware that in some cases your therapist may need to see and assess other areas if these potentially related to your current problem. For example, leg pain, in a number of cases, can be caused by issues with your lower back, hip or pelvis.

You are entitled to decline to remove any clothing at any point (you will not be asked to remove underwear) but please be aware this could make accurately assessing you very difficult, or in some cases may make it impossible to assess or treat you at all.

Chaperone Policy-     You may choose to bring a friend or family member into an appointment if you wish, and you may also specify whether you would like to be seen by a male or female member of staff. Please be aware, however, that this may affect what appointment dates/times are available to you depending on current staff working hours.

Children-        It is required that any patient under the age of 18 attend with a parent or guardian. Children aged 14 and over who are sufficiently responsible are able to attend by themselves if both clinician and parent are in agreement prior to the appointment.
